Segontium (Caernarfon) was the most important Roman fort in northwest Wales, garrisoned almost continuously for over 300 years. Its position at the foot of the Snowdon massif and commanding the Menai Strait gave it control over access to Anglesey — the breadbasket of northwest Wales. Excavations have produced an exceptionally rich finds assemblage covering the full range of Roman occupation.
