History & Significance

The Votadini of Lothian (around Edinburgh) were unusual among Scottish tribes in that they appear to have coexisted relatively peacefully with Roman forces — their great hillfort at Traprain Law continued to be occupied throughout the Roman period and Roman goods are found there in quantity. Agricola secured the eastern lowland route without major fighting.
