The Battle

History & Significance

Yorkist forces attempting to invest Harlech Castle in 1462 were harassed by the Lancastrian garrison in a series of sorties. The tiny garrison of Harlech under Dafydd ap Ieuan proved exceptionally aggressive, conducting raids against Yorkist supply lines and patrols in the hills around the castle. These sorties extended the siege for years and prevented Yorkist forces from reducing the castle quickly despite their overwhelming dominance of Wales.
