The Battle

History & Significance

Harlech Castle remained in Lancastrian hands from 1461 to 1468, the last Lancastrian stronghold in Britain after all northern English castles fell. The garrison under Dafydd ap Ieuan sheltered Lancastrian refugees including Jasper Tudor's stepfather. It was the inspiration for Men of Harlech. William Herbert's siege reduced it in 1468.
