The Antonine Wall, Twechar Main Street to Bar Hill is a section of the turf rampart that formed the northern frontier of the Roman Empire in Britain during the second century AD. Constructed under the Emperor Antoninus Pius around 142 AD, this stretch of fortification extends between the settlements of Twechar and Bar Hill in Dunbartonshire, representing part of the approximately 59-kilometre defensive line built across the Forth-Clyde isthmus. The monument comprises the surviving earthwork of the wall itself, which originally stood several metres high and was accompanied by a substantial ditch on its northern face. This section is significant as part of the wider Antonine Wall complex, which was occupied for only two decades before being abandoned, making it an important archaeological record of Roman military engineering and occupation in Scotland.
