The Antonine Wall, Wyndford Road to Castlecary is a section of the stone-built frontier barrier constructed by the Roman Empire across central Scotland during the 2nd century AD. This segment of the wall extends across Dunbartonshire and represents one of the northernmost military installations of Roman Britain, built under the emperor Antoninus Pius around AD 142-143. The structure comprises a substantial stone foundation with an associated ditch to the north, serving as both a defensive barrier and a means of controlling movement across the Clyde-Forth isthmus. The Wyndford Road to Castlecary stretch forms part of the wider Antonine Wall system, which spanned approximately 37 miles and included a series of forts, fortlets, and beacon platforms positioned at intervals along its length.
