The Antonine Wall, Wester Dullatur to East Dullatur, is a scheduled monument section of the second-century Roman frontier fortification built across central Scotland. Constructed during the reign of the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius around 142 CE, this turf-built rampart with its defensive ditch represents the northernmost extent of the Roman Empire in Britain. The Dullatur stretch preserves visible remains of the wall's substantial earthwork construction, characteristic of the broader Antonine Wall system which extended approximately 37 miles from the Firth of Clyde to the Firth of Forth. This segment contributes significantly to the understanding of Roman military logistics and frontier defence strategy during the second century, and the Antonine Wall as a whole was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, recognising its outstanding universal value as an archaeological monument.
