Antonine Wall, Girnal Hill to B802 road, Croy is a section of the Antonine Wall, the Roman frontier fortification constructed in Scotland during the second century AD. Built under the emperor Antoninus Pius between approximately 142 and 143 AD, this turf-built rampart with its ditch formed the northernmost boundary of the Roman Empire at its greatest extent. The surviving remains in this stretch near Croy in Dunbartonshire preserve elements of the wall's characteristic construction, demonstrating the engineering techniques employed across the approximately 60-kilometre length of the barrier between the Firth of Clyde and the Firth of Forth. The monument represents a significant phase in Roman Britain's frontier strategy and remains an important archaeological record of Roman military infrastructure in Scotland.
