Ardrossan Castle is a medieval stronghold situated on the coast of Ayrshire in southwestern Scotland. The castle dates from the thirteenth century and was built by the Earls of Eglinton, becoming an important defensive position controlling access to the Firth of Clyde. The surviving remains consist primarily of a substantial stone keep that once formed the principal stronghold of the site, though the structure has been significantly damaged over the centuries.
