Montfode Burn motte is a Medieval mounded earthwork located in Ayrshire, Scotland, dating to the Norman period of Scottish fortification. The monument consists of a raised mound typical of motte-and-bailey defensive structures, which served as a focal point for local lordship and control during the medieval period. Such mottes were commonly constructed in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries across lowland Scotland as relatively rapid and economical means of establishing military and administrative authority. The site's survival as an upstanding earthwork reflects the defensive needs of the region during the feudalisation of medieval Scotland.
