Balcastle Farm motte is a Medieval motte-and-bailey earthwork situated approximately 250 metres south-south-west of Balcastle Farm in Stirlingshire. The monument consists of an artificial mound characteristic of early Medieval fortifications, dating to the Norman period or shortly thereafter, likely constructed during the twelfth or thirteenth century. Such mottes served as defensive strongholds and symbols of feudal authority, typically supporting a wooden palisade and tower structure upon their summit.
