Wanside is a post-medieval farmstead located in East Lothian, Scotland, situated approximately 1300 metres south of its namesake settlement. The farm occupies land underlain by wacke bedrock of the Portpatrick and Glenwhargen Formations, undifferentiated sedimentary rocks formed during the Caradocian period of the Ordovician. This durable stone would have provided building material readily available to the farm's occupants throughout its occupation.
Post-medieval farmsteads of this type across East Lothian typically developed between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries as agricultural settlement intensified and farming practices became more organised.
