The Battle

History & Significance

Perkin Warbeck — the Flemish impersonator claiming to be Richard of York — sought Welsh support before his invasion attempt of 1497. Some Welsh gentry were approached but few committed. The episode demonstrates that Welsh loyalty to the Tudors was strong enough to resist the Yorkist pretender, despite genuine Yorkist sentiment in the Welsh Marches. Warbeck's main rebellion was defeated in Cornwall.
