History & Significance

Leonard Dacre, after submitting to Elizabeth, rose again in February 1570 at the head of 3,000 border men. He defeated a force of royal horse under Hunsdon at the River Gelt but was soon overwhelmed by Hunsdons combined force and fled to Scotland.
