History & Significance

After the Lancastrian catastrophe at Tewkesbury and the death of Henry VI, Jasper Tudor retreated to Pembroke Castle with his young nephew Henry Tudor. He attempted to hold out against the Yorkist forces sent to recover south Wales for Edward IV. Jasper eventually escaped to Brittany with Henry, beginning the long exile that would end with Bosworth in 1485.
