The Battle

History & Significance

Aedan mac Gabráin of Dál Riata was one of the most aggressive kings of his age. His repeated incursions into Bernicia and Lothian tested Northumbrian power before the eventual Northumbrian riposte at Degsastan in 603. These Forth estuary raids kept Bernician settlers on the south shore in a state of constant alert and marked the high-water mark of Dalriadan power projection into Lowland Scotland.

Forces Involved

Dalriadan war bands in longships, c.200-500 warriors
