History & Significance

Pembroke Castle, the ancestral seat of the Tudor family and Lancastrian stronghold in southwest Wales, was taken by Yorkist forces under William Herbert in 1461 after resistance by Jasper Tudor. The capture effectively began Yorkist pacification of Wales and pushed Jasper Tudor into the field.
