Oengus I's final great campaign against Dál Riata. The Annals of Ulster record the "smiting of Dál Riata" in 741 — a catastrophic defeat from which Dál Riata took decades to recover. Oengus then turned south and briefly dominated Strathclyde and even allied with Northumbria.
