History & Significance

Monmouth Castle, birthplace of Henry V, held a Royalist garrison as part of the southern Marches Royalist network. Parliament took it in 1646 as part of the mopping-up after Raglan Castle's fall. The castle was deliberately slighted and is now a ruin.
