Scowles in Blake's Wood is a complex of ancient mining workings located in the Forest of Dean near Gloucester. The site consists of extensive surface excavations and spoil heaps resulting from iron ore extraction, representing one of the principal centres of medieval iron production in the region. The workings date predominantly to the medieval period, when this area was intensively exploited for its iron resources to supply both local demand and wider markets. The irregular surface topography created by centuries of mining activity remains clearly visible, with numerous shallow pits and ridges marking the extent of past extraction and processing operations.
