History & Significance

The Annals of Ulster record a Pictish defeat by Northumbrians near the Firth of Forth in 711. Part of the ongoing conflict between Northumbria and Pictland that characterised the late seventh and early eighth centuries. Northumbrian power north of the Forth was never secure after Dunnichen 685, but raids and counter-raids continued for decades.
