Outcome
Local magistrates and justices of the peace in the supervised districts including Glenmoriston were reportedly as lenient as possible, often accepting excuses (e.g. that a garment was a woman's plaid, an overdyed plaid, or trews rather than a kilt) to avoid convicting men found in Highland dress; the ban nonetheless remained nominally enforced until its repeal in 1782, by which time patrols had largely lapsed and prosecutions had ceased (none recorded after about 1760).
